    Kalamazoo, Mich., Dec. 9. - A million dollars worth of property was destroyed and the city was saved from destruction only after an all night fight by the combined forces of firemen from Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and Battle Creek, is the record of the fire that started in a five and ten cent store on Main street at 10:30 last night.

    Casper. - One man was killed and two injured, one probably fatally, by the explosion of the boiler of a Burlington locomotive twelve miles west of here. The dead man is B. H. MILLER, an engineer, a resident of this city. The fireman, LEW SCHULZ, also of this city, was badly scalded and had both arms and one leg broken. He will probably die. J. A.     Thetford Mines, Que., Dec. 8. (CP) - A rock-slide two hours after a dynamite blast in the Bell asbestos mine here brought death last night to seven miners who were buried alive. Early today three of the bodies had been recovered.

    Thirty-four children were left fatherless when the men died.

    Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Dec. 9 (UP) - Authorities attempted today to complete identification of 11 persons killed early Sunday by a spectacular fire which virtually destroyed the three story Barry hotel. Eighteen persons were injured.

    Some of the bodies were burned beyond recognition. The hotel register and other records were destroyed, making impossible an exact check of the number of guests. It was believed, however, the total was less than 100.

    The catch of menhaden by boats of Tiverton, R. I., for the season of 1882, was 141,000 barrels.
