    Three firemen overcome by heat and a handsome two-story residence owned by Charles and John Gay, occupied by Bernard Frank on South Lawrence Street, destroyed, is the result of a fire yesterday afternoon.

    Lindenhurst, N.Y. (AP) - A twin-engine plane crashed in flames on take-off Saturday, plummeting into the front yard of a home where a child's birthday party was being held. All three men aboard the plane were killed.

    Four persons on the ground were injured, one critically.

    They were standing outside the STANLEY KATA residence when the plane clipped a corner of the frame house and plunged into the yard. Flaming gasoline set fire to the KATA house and three automobiles.

    FITCHBURG, Mass., Nov. 16. - One railroad employe[sic] was killed, another probably fatally injured, and six passengers slightly hurt when passenger train No. 2 from Rotterdam, N. Y., for Boston, over the Fitchburg Division of the Boston & Maine Railroad, ran into a light engine near the station here to-night.

    1942  December 1 – Gasoline rationing begins in the United States.
    License Numbers To Be on Coupons When individuals obtain their basic "A" gasoline rationing book, they must write their license number and states in which the automobile was registered on the back of each mileage ration coupon in ink, officials at the Denton County War Price and Ration Board said Tuesday. This will make the coupons valueless to anyone except the owner, and if the coupon book is lost or stolen, it can be more easily traced, it was explained.

    On the 9th Steve Brodie jumped from the Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) bridge in to the Hudson river, two hundred and twelve feet, and received injuries from which he may die. The leap was made for a wager of $500.
