    1905 - NEARING COMPLETION. Trains Will Be Running Over Bethel Granite Railway in a Few Weeks.


    The construction of the Bethel Granite railway is rapidly nearing completion, and trains will be running over it in a few weeks. The work was begun early in May, last, and has progressed rapidly. The track is now laid for two-thirds of the distance and the work of ballasting has begun. Ross & McRae, of Strathroy, Ont., are the contractors.

    The Providence papers contain full accounts of the boiler explosion in the India Rubber works of NATH. HAYWARD, on Thursday morning. The Journal says:

    1859 - Railroad Accident - Eight Killed.


    CHICAGO, Nov. 1. - A terrible accident occurred this morning on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. A train, consisting of thirteen cars, filled with excursionists from Fond du Lac for Chicago, ran off the track at Johnson's creek, eight miles south of Watertown, Wisconsin. Eight persons are reported killed, and a number badly injured. The names of the killed, as far as known, are as follows:

    Beverly, Mass., Nov. 2. - Beverly was visited yesterday by a $200,000 fire. The fire was discovered about 2:15 p.m. in ALLEN'S box factory on Revere street. The building was set on poles over the Danvers River. Owing to the inflammable contents of the factory, and the wind which prevailed, the factory was one sheet of flames before the fire department reached the scene.

    LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - A four-engine United Air Lines plane - some witnesses said it seemed to explode in the air - crashed in a northern Colorado sugar beet field Tuesday night, killing all 44 persons aboard.

    The disaster hitting the New York-to-Seattle DC6B craft was the second major crash the air line has suffered in the Rocky Mountain region in less than four weeks.

    1838  Grist Mill Fire
    On Friday last, the grist mill and turning shop of Capt. Daniel Dammon, Jr., in the south part of Rutland, took fire about noon, and were wholly consumed, with a considerable amount of lumber, stock and machinery. The whole loss is estimated at $1100. The buildings were ensured to the amount of $500 with the Worcester Mutual Fire Insurances Company. The fire is supposed to have originated from a spark accidentally falling among the shavings in the shop.
