    1945 - ONE KILLED, THREE HURT IN CRASH.

    Las Cruces, Sept. 10. - One soldier was killed and three persons were hurt in a head-on collision 20 miles west of Las Cruces today.
    Pfc. MEYER COHEN was killed instantly.

    MRS. COHEN, wife of the soldier, is in a Las Cruces hospital. Doctors have not determined the extent of her injuries.

    MR. and MRS. BUD TUCKER of Newport, Ky., were injured slightly.

    1971 - DYNAMITE BLASTS KILLS WORKMEN.


    Hollywood (UPI) - A truckload of dynamite blew up at a rockpit Thursday, apparently killing three men. Two bodies were found and the man handling the dynamite was missing without a trace.

    A spokesman for Broward County Sheriff Ed Stack said the cause of the blast had not been determined, but that it appeared a dynamite charge being either placed or removed by a blaster's assistant identified as McKINLEY JONES went off accidentally, setting off an estimated ton of dynamite on a nearby pickup...     1887  The Lincoln township school board, at a meeting held a few days ago, decided to engage Mr. J. T. Patterson, of Hopkinton, Iowa, a brother-in-law to J. E. Bort, to teach the school heretofore taught by Mr. Hoover.
    Mr. Patterson is expected here tomorrow morning. His school will open Sept. 19.

    1852  FIRE.
    The House and Barn owned by Lorin Shaw in the south part of Hardwick, was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday, Aug. 28th. The House was occupied by two families, both of which lost nearly all their furniture, clothing, &c., and about 4 tons of hay in the Barn. Mr. Shaws loss is about $1400, partly insured. The fire originated in the upper part of the House, cause unknown.
