    Blind River, Ont. (AP) - A car carrying six young persons skidded on an icy curve near here today and plunged into the Cataract River. Only one escaped alive.
    GARY HAMILTON, 20, of Blind River, walked a mile in freezing temperatures to the farm of Lucien Labbe. He and Labbe returned to the scene in a futile attempt to remove the victims.

    Calgary, Jan. 12. - One of the most disastrous fires in the history of Western Canada, occurred today when the large packing plant of P. Burns & Co. was totally destroyed by fire. The loss, including carcasses in cold storage, will probably be in excess of $2,000,000. On account of the low water pressure, the fire department was unable to do effective work, and at a late hour tonight, the fire was still raging.

    Attleboro, Mass. (AP) - An explosion heard for miles leveled a chemical plant building Sunday night, inflicting death and injury on a Sunday shift.

    Further blasts were feared as fire swept a warehouse.

    Two persons were known dead and at least 10 injured.

    The dead were identified as WILLIAM CANIGLIA, 35, North Providence, R. I., and NORMAN ST. PIERRE, 29.

    The blast at the THOMPSON Chemical Co. plant was heard in Boston, about 40 miles north of Attleboro.

    New Haven Engineer Could Not See Signals - One Killed, Two Hurt.

    NEW BEDFORD, Mass., Jan. 12. - A New York, New Haven & Hartford train was wrecked at East Freetown Station this forenoon by collision with a Concord freight, the engineer, on account of the blinding storm, being unable to see the signals. The freight train was taking a siding to allow the passenger train to pass.

    New London, Jan. 12 - Fire tonight swept through the Old Yale Brewery now used as a storage building destroying the entire structure and its contents and causing a loss estimated at $100,000.
