Meadville, Pa Dec 31, - At Eight o'clock this morning train No. 8, from the West, running fifty miles an hour, collided with a double-header freight four miles west of this city on the New York, Pennsylvania & Ohio railroad. The entire passenger train is a total wreck, and forty persons are supposed to be killed.

A hotel at Franklin, Pa., was burned the other day, and the flames set fire to the wood work of a wire bridge over the Allegheny river, and the cables, soon becoming red hot, parted from their anchorage, precipitating the bridge structure into the river. Miss Adelaide Sims and her brother, William S. Sims, Jr., a student at St. George's School, son and daughter of Admiral and Mrs. William S. Sims, were in a serious auto accident in Raynham on Tuesday. Fortunately all escaped injury. The car in which they were on their way to Boston, with Miss Sims driving, was in collision with a car headed in the opposite direction.
